TDPO Prosecutes French Citizen in Taiwan  Marijuana Smuggling Case

The Taiwan Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office (TDPO) Prosecutor Bo Teng Hsiao, in collaboration with the Aviation Police Bureau,National Police Agency, Ministry of Interior, investigated French citizen Medjahed Ali Malik for smuggling several kilograms of marijuana into Taiwan.Medjahed Ali Malik confessed to the crime during the investigation, and the case was indicted to the Taiwan Taoyuan District Court on July 17, 2025.

Summary of Fact:

Medjahed Ali Malik, a French Citizen, joined a drug trafficking group that planned to smuggle several kilograms of marijuana from Thailand to Taiwan. Medjahed Ali Malik was handed luggage by the drug trafficking group in Thailand around April 8, 2025. The luggage was filled with 33.431 kilograms of the Schedule I controlled substance, marijuana (total approximate street value: $US1.3 million). He then took a flight to Taiwan.

On April 8, 2025, Medjahed Ali Malik took flight BR-68 from Thailand to Taiwan. Upon the luggage's arrival at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, officials from the Customs Administration, Ministry of Finance, examined the luggage by x-ray detector and discovered the Schedule I controlled substance inside.

Investigation Process:

After being notified by Customs officials, the Aviation Police Bureau immediately reported the case to the TDPO and arrested Medjahed Ali Malik at Taoyuan International Airport. Medjahed Ali Malik was detained and confessed to the crime. To secure the criminal investigation, the TDPO applied for detention. Medjahed Ali Malik has been held in a Taipei Prison since his arrest on April 8, 2025. The indictment was filed with the Court on July 17, 2025.
